I mean, it's not far-fetched. They already do a third version of the main games from a generation, why not start doing it with the remakes too? More money to them, and not many people will see it coming for this specific case, meaning a lot of people will have already bought OR or AS and will be willing to get DE.
And yes, this hasn't happened before, but muh patterns can easily be broken.
