If we stay in Gen VII and get Pokémon "Z", we'd have the new games, their upper version and a new game of an older region, which is true of Gen 3, 4 and 6. With Gen 5 being different intentionally to mix things up, which we've known since they explained why we never got "Grey"
It's just speculation obviously but it makes a lot of sense.
