I grasped my hands tighter to forbid my dreaded enemy their escape as we climbed higher and higher into the blue skies above. The fires grew higher as the flames from my damaged jetpack flashed around me growing nearer and nearer to the damaged fuel tanks. Through the twisting and twirling flight I barely caught sight of where I knew the others waited, knowing that I had bought them the time they needed.
Yet even that faded from my eyes as we flew higher as I was returned to where I came. The skies around me seemed alight in flame as the wind swept around me, the stars so near and yet so far as I searched, our speed finally slowing as the fuel lines began to fail. There was a flash of light as a shower of sparks shot out as the engines failed under the force of the fire, the jets sputtering as I turned my gaze from the stars above, seeing as the fires as they reached the damaged fuel tanks before taking one last gaze at the world below.
