In Colosseum and its sequel, you are never NOT at the helm. The roadblocks are far and few between and the next objective is at best vaguely mentioned. Compare that to SM or SWSH where the path is still just as linear but with barriers and checkpoints every few steps forward or on any potential sidepaths, not to mention Gen 7+ also have the redundant flag markers on the map which makes the "exploration" even more boring and monotonous since you can almost never go anywhere but where they're pointing you to.
