>>48150626Thank you for speaking out on this. I know there's a huge problem with companies luring in artists to do their creative labor for them. I see this as kind of a sister issue to the whole "can you do this for free it's for exposure" type of shit creatives have to put up with, where you guys are exploited and under-appreciated. I understand the trepidation.
At the very least for this project, it's not a "run off with the money" thing at least. The game's done with development and this is for a free DLC expansion. (there's 101 monsters in the game and IIRC 10 total are from Kickstarters "make your own" and design contest winners)
At the very least I've talked to an artist who won a previous design contest (who's also a dev for a different indie monster game. Small world). They stated that while they didn't make money for their design (pic related) getting put in monster sanctuary, the devs are fine with fanart and merch sales from the designer.
Sorry for the shilling. I'm (kind of?) part of the pokemon romhacking scene but not as a creative and it really does make me really sad to see monster designs just kind of languish in a dex image (like that cascanon guy is probably not going to ever do anything with this dex and make it a game despite having some designs people really like). But I also understand the "if I thought this was good enough to submit, why wouldn't I keep it for my own work?" mindset. Tricky tricky.
Cute bulba btw
