Heres my Silver version team. I didnt grind at all literally not a single pokemon koed that wasnt a battle. I battled all trainers and several mambers of my team were only level 30 when I got to indigo plateau. It doesnt help that you dont get evo stones til kanto. I just kept going up against the e4 over and over. I eventually replaced my useless furret with a seel and put the xp share on it. By the time I finally broke through both ampharos and umbreon were over level fifty. Staryu and vulpix were level 40, arbok was level 31 (lol) and dewgong level 41. The shinies are all thanks to the coin case glitch. I recommend anyone using virtual console for gold and silver try it. You can make any pokemon shiny very easily. On my way to kanto and I'll be heading straight to bills grandfather in cerulean so I can finally evolve my staryu and vulpix. Theyre both terribly frail and were the reason it took so long to beat the E4.
