>GC:It occurs to me that Pokémon is in the same situation as many long-running franchises, everything from Tomb Raider to Call Of Duty, where long-time fans are beginning to grumble that the games have been too similar for too long. These games are currently trying to reinvent themselves but has there ever been any though to do the same with Pokémon?
>JM:I use the example of the shooting game genre in Japan, which you have in the arcades, and I was a big fan of these, and still am.
>GC:2D shooters?
>JM:Yes, and as people got more and more advanced with these games, people demanded more difficult games, and it got to a point where the games were so ludicrously difficult and you put in ¥100 [about 80p – GC] to have your go and it was just completely inaccessible for a beginner. And from that experience I think that it’s important always to emphasise that games need to be accessible, and so whilst we do take into account more advanced users it’s always very important to take into account the first time user as well, so that it is accessible perpetually.
