The absolute ignorance of this post, the fact that the party is limited to 6 Pokemon means every potential team member is competing with everyone else for a slot. This is especially true in smogon formats where overpowered megas get banned to ubers where they have to compete with box legendaries. The only reason you see a ubiquitous presence of megas in VGC is because VGC has no such banlists as they only restrict based on availability.

Megas are 100% competing with other Pokemon, because losing an item slot is actually a fairly heft cost.

And I'd drop the franchise forever if it meant the end of transferring from generation to generation. I've had an event collection growing since gen IV.

Overall it'd be a pretty big fuck you to players that actually stuck around for the long haul. Can't see the competitive scene being too happy about it, either.
