>>58679035Sometimes I think SMT sticking to mythology limits its creativity a bit, but the Devil Summoner era provesmer wrong. That's when most of the more original demons were made, and they fit perfectly with other demons. The DebiSama OC demons tended to have horror inspirations and presented as urban legends, perfectly in line with the series. And several other demons from real world mythology also got revamps in the late 90's, while mainline focuses on the world ending and demons taking over, demons in Devil Summoner are more influenced by the changing times and modernity. Even happens in Raidou with its Taisho aesthetic.
These two design philosophies kinda clash when they end up together in future games though
I also think one advantage Pokemon has over megaten and Digimon is that mons are much more normalized and part of the world there and there's a whole culture around them, while they're from a separate realm in the other franchises. Devil Summoner touches on underground cultures involving summoners though, working in seedy shops out in the open or having a nightlife quality, I like that.
