Update. I've gone and gone through Kanto and just spent the last hour hatching all of the baby Pokemon. I have to give Gold some credit, I was really not happy when I got to Ecruteak, went to Burned Tower, then learned Houndour and Slugma weren't there, but the game is still pretty fun. Going out of my way to catch everything, while I'm still pretty annoyed about some shit being so crazy rare, really helped me appreciate Johto a lot more. I recall sending some friends messages along the lines of
>AAAAAAGH I FUCKING HATE JOHTO JUST GIVE ME NEW POKEMON ALREADYI got to 150, and that meant I was able to transfer all my shit from gen 1 via Stadium. An additional 60 mons for the dex, I guess.
