I've been working in a D&D style homebrew pokemon campaign for nearly a year and half now, off and on, and in my campaign the league challenges don't even start until after you've captured at least three monsters each over level 25. Then the gyms are designed to teach mastering the element by giving the leaders Pokemon that all have dual types that support their primary typing. Don't even get me started on how I'm running the e4. But the point I'm making is TPCi puts too much emphasis on 'maintaining the formula's rather than improving. The trials for Alola were a nice change of pace, and I think a good idea but implemented the wrong way. I honestly don't even know how the league challenges work in Galar.
