Kinda like how eagles are the "king of birds" merely by virtue of being among the largest flying birds, so Zeus the king of the gods gets associated with them. Anyway, oak trees in many cultures are associated with lightning as well, because oak trees get struck by lightning much more often than shorter trees. Oak trees who have been hit by lightning sometimes grow mistletoe in the scars, and mistletoe was seen as a literal gift from the gods by the Celts. Mistletoe of course being a Christmas thing.
