It's absurd in the first place that humans would know how to better use animal's natural abilities in real time combat with other animals in the first place. The time it takes to give commands would make it less efficient compared to just training the animal beforehand and trusting it to react appropriately within fights. Decisions of the trainer would realistically be limited to which mon to send out, when to call off a fight, or when to switch. Seldom would shouting a command be as useful as it is in the games and anime. Best example of actual trainer energy being used is in Z-moves, as that actually is explained as needing energy or some kind from the actual trainer. Outside of this, an attempt to make the trainers look tired is just for show. There are no laws of the universe that make standing there exhausting.
