>>31103470I like to figure out where the light is coming from before i start. I usually doodle a little sun in the direction i want the light to originate from so i don't forget. This helps things stay consistent with lights as well as shadows. Shadows are the most important in a piece because it gives the viewer a sense of the subject in 3d space.
In your drawing, I don't mind your shading because it is consistent. Don't be afraid of going darker with your shadows.
Also a handy tip, usually items in the foreground should be darker or lighter than anything in the piece to give it depth. In the linework, making the cone lines thicker can give the illusion of depth.
There are tons of tutorials floating online and there are a billion ways of making different effects, just experiment a whole bunch!
