I just mashed the fuck out of the buttons, but I did hold B and > to "reduce damage"
But here's my real story.
>Playing LeafGreen for the first time
>get to Diglett's Cave
>first Pokemon encounter in that cave was a Shiny Diglett
>didn't really think of it much but tried to catch it regardless
>had no Pokeballs
>killed it
>decided to spend the next 3 hours in the cave looking for the black-nosed Diglett after I got some Pokeballs
