I've been meaning to do this for a while, though.
I made a game set in the UK, so the dex is kinda dull, but there are "strays" dotted around the region that you can rescue and train via DexNav, there are 100 or so of these to keep variety, and it kind of links that the UK is diverse culturally.
(btw the strays are introduced around the 3rd gym. Gym leader's mum owns a charity)
The region is 1984-esque which is why the gym leaders all have their gimmicks which make it harder to get to the elite 4. the first gym leader refuses to comply with the rules of the Pokemon League and gets kicked out after you beat him. Gym leaders in this region are like celebrities. Final gym is hard to get to so you don't find out the gimmick until you battle it, but I have planned it out.
