OP, I am 23, born in 90, was a little kid in RBY, and played all Gens except BW2, and Gen III.
I also play Pathfinder, build Gundam models, etc.
Your hobby doesn't matter. It's how you talk about it, and how you look/speak/present yourself just in general in public.
Be well groomed with a decent haircut and clothing. Nothing with too much pop culture references unless you're at a con or something, I stick to monotone V-Necks.
Don't be a sperglord. Don't bring up your hobby unless it's relevant to conversation, but don't be afraid to talk about it when it does. Hell, nerd out.
Eccentric is in. "Nerd" culture, is in. As long as you don't freak the fuck out and look somewhat normal, not only will no one look down on you, you will actually MAKE friends.
Last night I went with three of my mates, 2 female one male. We were all playing HG/SS. One couple saw us, asked to battle. Their hot (single) friend played with all of us as well. It was a fun time had by all, and now we're all friends on FB and the 7 of us are actually going to a Barcade in my area next weekend where things may progress, or they may not.
But it's fun and socially acceptable.
tl;dr Don't be a faggot about your interests and act normal and no one will give a fuck.Shit, the Big Bang Theory is a thing, nerds are in.
