but yeah, something like the Picori helping a cobbler in minish cap make the pegasus boots was a MASSIVE deep cut. We may have an entire cookie brand playing on the idea, but the majority of japanese people have never heard of "The Elves and the Shoemaker" or any other Grimms fairy tale for the most part.

So D&D was their only true exposure to western medieval fantasy, it was exactly once then immediately fell into total obscurity. So their only lasting touchstones for western fantasy are all japanese takes on western fantasy.
But yeah it's kind of funny, cause for instance Delicious in Dungeon FEELS like Moldvay Basic B/X Mystara, more than anything official D&D has for two decades, but apparently the author had never even heard of D&D.
