I just prefer Doubles and don't care for Smogon's banning style, so I go with VGC. Although I know next to nothing about Battlespot singles vs Smogon singles, so I can't attest to that correlation.
My qualm though is why are people saying VGC is dead? It's not, just the live events. It's still played on online tournaments, official cart still supports games, and the VGC community playing both on Showdown and cart is still going strong.
