>>43099801Gen 6 is when they started to hardcore pander to Kanto, so it adds up. Remember gen 5 had a whole unique pokedex of Pokemon new to the series, then gen 6 comes around with mega evolcing as a focal mechanic used heavily in advertising, and Kantomons were some of the most numerous. And when that happened, who got 2 mega forms? Mewtwo and Charizard, both gen 1.
Gen 6 started Charizard pandering super hard because that's when it the Kanto pandering was at its greatest.
But even then, thats jusy the tip of the iceberg. When Smash 4 came out Pomemon Trainer was sacked for a solo Charizard, why him of the 3? Not to mention he's always in Pokeballs in every smash before that, he was a part of Red's final team in Jhoto, and was a massive Pokemon character in the anime (dont need to remind yhe thread how big it is to be a gen mascot and still appear later). No, Charizard is one of the most popular Pokemon and thwy use that all the time, its nothing new. Kanto pandering has gotten harder, so maybe thats just when people started noticing.
