Pokemon would be much better off without random encounters, prove me wrong.
Seriously, a system that's a mix of Paper Mario and Xenoblade would be much better.
>various mons scattered across the map
>if they see you, they either try to run away or attack you
>if you touch them, you start a battle
>rarity is handled through time cycles, location, and etc...
>you can have high level monsters in low level areas that players are forced to avoid
>you can now place monsters at specifc locations in dungeons for more egaging battles
>you can also more easily control the tempo of exploration in dungeons, have high combat areas, and slower areas that ket plsyers collect themselves, explore, or solve pyzzles without being interrupted, allowing you to have more difficult puzzles
Seriously, random encounters are just lazy design. There's no reason for them outside of GF being lazy. All the benefits of random encounters in regard to rarity, IVs, and even farming, can all be solved with some clever game design, and fucking effort.
