I have a similar story, OP.
I got into college recently, and I was in Theatre class. I'm majoring in computer sciences, but the degree requires several credits in general education, and Theatre satisfies the art credit.
Anyway, the professor gives us an excersize, think of any fictional character from a book, TV show, game, movie or whatever, and come up with a way that you relate to that character.
Professor says that time is up, and asks for people to volunteer to share.
Suddenly, some guy's hand shoots up like a rocket, and you could tell this guy was excited. The professor calls on him and asks what character he chose.
In the most nasally voice you can think of, he says
"DOCTOR ZOIDBERG FROM FUTURAMA"
The class snickers, but he continues.
"ZOIDBERG IS VERY SMART AND KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT ALL SORTS OF THINGS, BUT NOBODY EVER SEEMS TO APPRECIATE HIM. THEY SORT OF BRUSH HIM OFF. I'M NOT SAYING THAT I'M AS MUCH OF A SOCIAL PARIAH AS HE IS, BUT I DEFINITELY FEEL LIKE AN OUTCAST THAT IS IGNORED BY HIS PEERS."
I can't even believe what's going on. The guy said he was 23, so I have a feeling he may be legitimately autistic, not the buzzword that we throw around here all the time.
