I feel mostly pity for the man at this point. From Gens III-V, you can really see him trying to steer the boat to greater heights and trying to make Pokemon into something more than Bootleg Last Bible, culminating in Black/White. But then he was forced to realize ambition and change bring alienation and chagrin and found himself and his work critically praised but despised by fans only wanting more of the same. Now you can tell he's walking a creative tightrope, trying his damndest not to go deep again and split things.

This was always going to scare people off, especially after the influx of people who came in off HG/SS and wanting to relive their childhood.
