Clefairy has been my favourite for so long that it's difficult to articulate how it happened. I caught one when I was six or seven years old, probably in Pokémon Red, which I played after Gold, so I remembered it from the Whitney fight. Clefable turned out to be really useful because of its movepool, which helped me to love the Pokémon, but something about its profile as a timid, nocturnal (and plausibly extraterrestrial) fairy also clicked with me. I imagined spending quiet nights with Clefairy and Clefable on lonely, isolated mountains. Simple design, very cute, but also somewhat otherworldly—it's a combination that really works for me.
