>>12802127Chances are you're overthinking it and haven't had the time to actually learn it yet. You have a vague idea of what it's supposed to look like but you can't pinpoint how to go about expressing it. Go find a hexagonal prism (or something with multiple, defined planes, even a little toy cube will do) and take note of the intensity of shadow on each plane relative to both wherever the light originates and where your point of view is. Don't just look at it, study it.
A plane viewed from an exact side (90 degree angle) won't convey any light to your eye. What you're actually thinking of/seeing are additional planes which create the three dimensional form.
The trick to plastic is replicating its translucency, tint, and/or reflectivity depending on the type of plastic.
Study a reference.The trick to hair is just blocking out the 'hair' as one solid object and then adding the strands/detail after you've blocked it all out. It's no different from anything else until you get to the refining stage.
