As far as pokemon goes, I think it's one of the best entries in the series, with the gameplay changes being a solid step forward. That said, the technical shortcomings are severe and are actively detrimental to the game design at times (eg. by the garbage draw distance stopping stakes from being visible from a distance), there are some truly god-awful character designs around, and some elements do feel underwhelming, like the world design in general, and the entire Team Star part of the plot. And the trainer customisation is easily the worst it's been since the feature was introduced.
Arven is a bro. Nemona is fucking weird. Penny is completely unlikeable.
The music was decent for the most part but holy fuck the finale theme at the last part of the final boss fight was awful and spoilt the mood. I get they were going for a triumphant theme but it just sucked and didn't mesh with the previous music at all.
Lastly some elements like allusions to that mysterious hexagon dome pokemon thing in the book are still unresolved which I expect to be dealt with in DLC but still leaves the game itself feeling a bit lacklustre at the end. The legendaries in general were pretty lacking with only the four of them all found the same way and then a dupe of your version's bike.
