Arceus and Giratina were originally one being, alone, which could not perceive itself as having a form. However, it did have the power to express, and spoke the Unown into existence, starting with one original eye, possibly even i(ota), then spilling into a vast language from which it designed a world around itself.
As it built its world and the worlds within it, it developed an idealized image of itself as creator, and this was Arceus. But simultaneously, it developed an understanding of the qualities within itself that were unpleasant. The being was disgusted with these qualities, yet could not abandon them or remove them from its world, so it split itself as compromise, all of the darkness and irritation becoming the creeping Giratina, with Arceus purified into its regal prancing form.
The Unown which lurk on Earth and other worlds spore from primordial energy older than the physical universe, with Johto's ruins having a strong concentration via spiritual rifts opened when ancients attempted to communicate with the gods.
Mew is one of a host of special perfect beings, originally from a paradise realm, with the ultimate purpose of realizing Arceus's direct will to spread life and gather it all together in love, until one day it can accept even Giratina back in, reunited and ready to create a new egg from all mind and matter.
