Basically stage 1 is a star and a torch juggler. Stage 2A represents the star graduating into a sun, hence the orbiting objects, and a master juggler, hence the smug look and crossed arms.
Stage 2B represents a brown dwarf star, often called a "failed star" and an extreme burn victim.
