>>11971206, the illusion of metal mainly lies in how well you can make it appear as if the scenery is being reflected in the object, because that's what will be recognized by the viewer's mind as "metallic". Also, when you go to color it don't *lose hope* until you've built up a reasonable amount, if won't look like metal after the first few strokes but it will with enough building.
Google "gold band" and study the way the results are colored and how the bending of the reflections conveys the contouring and form of the object.
