Continuing my Platinum run. Since I last posted in the previous thread I've completed quite a bit more - had not beaten Wake at that time. A lot of this section was fairly pedestrian to be fair.
Wake was an easy win with Raichu zapping Gyarados and Roselia mopping up the rest. Byron was a similar story, I set up a Reflect with Chimecho just in case and then swept with Gastrodon + Surf.
After that things started going wrong again. I lost my Chimecho to an Ambipom with U-Turn - had no idea Ambipom could even learn that move honestly, have not really played with it at all. Then the disaster struck on Candice, as I lost my starter Infernape. I switched it in on Abomasnow assuming I would 1-shot, but the fatty survived with a sliver. In hindsight I should have used Flame Wheel over Close Combat, but I was sure it would KO. If I had used Flame Wheel, even if it didn't kill, I probably wouldn't have died to the Water Pulse coming back the other way since I was at 70 HP - afterwards I checked the showdown calculator and baseline Abomasnow + Pulse only maxes at like 58 damage non-crit against my Infernape...
In the end of the day, it's a big punish. I still have tons of good mons, but I was attached as is the purpose of this format. And I now have zero fire-types, nor really any pokemon with good fire moves at all. Going to have to be really careful about that going forward.
I am fairly happy with my team overall. Machoke has been surprisingly useful, I haven't really used it before. Right now it's mostly saddled with HMs, with Cross Chop as its actual offensive option. Gen 4 just has too many bad HMs man. Feeling like I 'have' to bring Staraptor for Fly is also pretty annoying honestly. It's a great mon but I've used it basically every single gen 4 playthrough.
