Some people also seem to find it a downgrade in content compared to previous releases, being split across 6 versions with some mons requiring multiple. I personally love them, but that's because I actually wanted more than 1.
There's also the new Digital Monster Color. They're colour remakes of the original vpets with some new content. Personally, I think they're a waste of money, especially since the Ver. 20th is just all 5 originals bundled into one, but some people REALLY like the colour it brings.
Overall though, just start with the Ver. 20th. It has a massive roster of the first Digimon in the series and is an incredible deal as is. It's simpler than the X so you'll probably want to start with it for that reason as well.
