>>46442637I love the design myself, but there's definitely a couple things that need to be worked on and most notable are the legs. Lack of definition aside (which is also a problem), they really don't sell the idea that it is able to stand on its hind legs which is a clear intent of the design.
And that's not the only thing they fail to sell, GameFreak/TPCi have done a terrible job showcasing what the design is capable of throughout both the games and the anime. It didn't even use its swords, its main feature, in its own debut games and the anime always seems to half-ass its portrayal outside of one episode (I believe it's the one where Ash fights the BW2 Water Gym Leader). As for the swords their selves, I'm personally not a fan of how they magically grow when Samurott pulls them out of their sheathe but it's Pokemon so I can give it a pass.
I'd also give the tail a little bit of a redesign. I get they're probably going for a Japanese war fan in its visual design, but it doesn't flow that well from its body. Making the base of the tail longer and perhaps a bit thicker would do it some good.
Last of all, something that really isn't Samurott's fault, there's Dewott. I know a lot of people complain about the transition from Dewott to Samurott, but Dewott is the problem here as it does nothing to bridge the two designs between it that we also know were designed before it. It's just a bigger, less appealing Oshawott which baffles me when the designers straight up made a statement that giving Oshawott evolutions which are "just a bigger Oshawott" would be boring. But hey, at least they were right about it.
