I apologize for the lull, I took a few minutes to move myself to a new room, adjust the fan, and have a few more shots (flavored rum, to my shame).
Anyway, here's the state of things thus far:
I am running Emerald. I am not doing a nuzlocke, however, I am also not evolving any of my pokemon beyond the first stage (that they are able to learn an attack move by leveling up-- for instance, I might evolve an abra)
Anon helped me choose my PC's gender, female, and her name, 'Brandy.'
Brandy's team is so far:
Sagette: a female level 12 Mudkip
Friender: a female level 12 Poochyena
Willow Nye: a female level 10 Ralts
Having soundly crushed Brandon, the girls and I are about to move on to Petalburg, in search of our first gym badge. On the way, I've learned a bit about them:
Willow, the Ralts, has a careful nature. She knows Confusion and Growl, and is sensitive to people's emotions, like all Ralts.
Friender, the Poochyena, is a relaxed and friendly pokemon. She and Willow don't quite get along yet due to their type difference, but hopefully the will in time. Her strongest move is still Tackle, but by Howling and kicking sand in her opponent's eyes, she still packs quite a punch.
Sagette, the Mudkip, is a calm, rational type of pokemon, much more sedated than your typical playful Mudkip. She already knows Water Gun and Mud Slap, making her effective against a wide array of opponents. She helps the other two get along and is deeply attached to her young trainer.
