Based on the anime, all we know is that a trainer has to beat eight gym leaders to collect the badges. Then enter the conference league to beat other trainers to win and earn the privilege of fighting the Elite Four and the region's champiin at any time. We never seen winners like Tobias or Alan fight the Elite Four and/or the champs and that the writers never introduce all the Elite Four. And if they did beat the champions, what's next for them?
