It feels like we've gained a slight edge on predicting where megas will be placed since last October, when everyone was complaining that Mega Scizor wasn't worth it and Mega Blaziken was weaker than Life Orb.
Now, however, we can take Mega Sceptile aside a bit and really get into what it will be able to accomplish. Which isn't much. I'm not gonna point out the general terrible-ness of the STAB combo or how Lightningrod doesn't make any sense. Instead I will say this;
Was the meta really asking for a super fast Grass/Dragon? Does it solve or do anything better than other pokemon? Can I just throw it on my team and mindlessly push buttons to win?
No to all of those. Its saving grace is its ability to check Washtom in OU and it has generally little potential elsewhere. We'll have to wait for tutor/egg moves and VGC next year.
