Aegi became mainly special because the meta evolved into a toxic place for physical attackers because the massive spike on strong physical attackers which lead to things like Intimidate and the newly buffed Will o Wisp to see more use than ever before.
Look at VGC14 for example. The presence of Mega Mom is so toxic that you literally require a few ways to deal with her on your team because otherwise your team will not progress. Make a wild guess about which things neuter Mega Mom?
tl;dr predicting how a metagame of anything will develop is nearly impossible. You'll never know what will be the next big thing.
