And they never show their lower body as a nod to the more simple whack-a-mole designs, unlike Moley. Also I think Diglett is older but I'm never sure when it comes to Sanrio (things like My Melody are older than you might think)- I know Moley appeared in Hello Kitty Paradise, an anime from 2000 that I watched with my little sisters. If that *is* his origin, then I'm sure Sanrio would be pissed to find out that people mistake it for Diglett as Sanrio is all about making recognizable characters/brands.
