This took way too long. I'll try to explain my choices.
Every mon selected here was based solely on the pictured form; for example, I love cyndaquil but hate typhlosion, so it's low despite my love for the first stage, and I hate chimchar but love infernape, so it's placed high. Megas are ignored too, which leaves venusaur so low. For the last column, blaziken is what I consider to be the diving line between good/decent starters and bad starters. Chesnaught avoids the bottom three by virtue of being a glyptodon, albeit an awful one. Samurott is a tremendous mess that fails spectacularly in every area and I'm baffled that it has any fanbase at all, though it is the best in game starter in BW, so maybe the kids who started with it are posting here now. You know it's bad when the creator even said it was a product of writer's block. I know serperior isn't exactly popular, but I think snakes are cool and I think the theme is fun. Blastoise is so high because of nostalgia, which I freely admit. I think that covers everything.
