They both helped her on her journey as Coordinator in different ways.
May would always constantly show affection for the two, but at different moments and episodes.
Ash would sometimes treat May too, and tried to give her a soft serve Ice Cream cone right after Drew and May had a private talk.
It's the meaningful things that Ash and May do for each other that make it very appealing for me. It's not just direct "in your face love" if you know what I'm getting at.
