People loved Platinum and Emerald but those games had very few story and gameplay differences compared to DP.
Emerald
- Both teams play a significant role in the story.
- Only one new forme (Deoxys Speed Forme)
- Gym leader rematches
- Battle facilities (Tent, Frontier)
- New areas (Safari Zone, Desert Underpass, Mirage Tower, etc.)
- Juan is the 8th gym leader. Wallace replaces Steven as champion.
- Story has more emphasis on Rayquaza and its role in stopping Groudon & Kyogre
Platinum
- Story is largely the same as DP but with new characters, more involvement from Team Galactic, and Giratina/lake guardians playing a larger role
- Gym order changed (Fantina is fought before Maylene or Wake)
- Seven new formes (Shaymin Sky, Giratina Origin, and Rotom's five formes)
- Slightly harder difficulty in beginning but easier in the end
- Expanded PokeDex: 59 species (210 total)
- New areas (Battle Frontier, Distortion World)
Meanwhile for USUM alone:
- Confirmed to have around 100 additional Pokemon to the dex (around 402 Pokemon total)
- At least 2 new Pokemon
- Harder game overall (Hau's Paniola Town team has four Pokemon on it)
- Storyline changes are much more significant, with an emphasis on a brand new team and Necrozma. Ultra Beasts are wrecking havoc. Characters from SM that had a small role have a bigger role now. Lusamine is no longer the main antagonist.
- New trial (Mina)
- Revised trials (new Totems, new obstacles, etc.)
- New forms for Necrozma and Lycanroc (Pikachu's is aesthetic so it doesn't count imo)
- At least 2 new Z-Moves
Aside from USUM being split into two versions, I don't know why people aren't hyped for these games. Not counting post-game features, these are the most enhanced versions yet. On the surface these games are much more distinct than Platinum or Emerald.
I don't remember this much outrage during Emerald or Platinum's news cycles.
What deep-seated issues do people still have with USUM?
