A bunch of walking talking eggs just come off as creepy mutants, and this is further emphasized by the fact that they're psychic types.

See that's the thing I don't think anyone mentioned, Mr.Mime isn't just a mime and Koffing isn't just a mine. You should try and reduce them to that in your head. Your brain won't let you, because there are so many details that have gone into their designs they've become distinct creatures.
Your brain won't be able to do that with Vanilite, Vanillish, and Vanilluxe because there's nothing there but the ice cream thing. They're joke designs. But like I said, they make the world feel less real.
