Probably gonna go with this for Platinum. I'll use a Piplup for the first gym while switch training the Magikarp. I considered sticking with the starter but I used pretty much all of the complimentary early game mons in the last few playthroughs already, so I figured Gyarados would be more reliable for the second and third gyms.
