If yes, he'll probably only use it when he is facing a very, very powerfull opponent (Pokemon League) or someone with a key stone as well. Or when he is saving the day.
If no, then it has no point introducing Mega Evolution in the first place if the main protagonist of the anime isn't even going to use it.
