>>45748405Gamefreak are lazy developers who used handhelds as an excuse to not do 3D development in a timely manner. Even though it was 100% feasible to do a 3d pokemon game on the DS. So now they're at least two (technically three) generations behind the standard. Pokemon Sword and Shield are effectively mid gen PS2 games on the Switch. And it absolutely shows when you realize that a HD port of FF12 still outclasses it from a design and scope perspective despite being 14 years it's senior.
There's also the fact that competition from a quality standpoint has gotten better. Sure pokemon will still outsell its rivals but with Digimon Story complete collection, World of Final Fantasy, Yokai Watch, Ni No Kuni, Nexomon and the upcoming Monster Hunter Stories 2. All on the same platform it's hard to rate it the best experience even in it's own category anymore.
