Gen 6 brought Pokemon back to its roots in every way. Designs were made to look realistic with good proportions.
And before some absolute assblasted retard tries to cherrypick the very few shit tier designs from gen 6 which don't follow that design concept, get the fuck out, even gen 1, the gen which pioneered that design philosophy didn't stick to it 100%.
Take a look at Clawitzer. What is it? It's a pistol shrimp with a claw that is a bit more exaggerated than a regular pistol shrimp with a subtle chinese dragonhead design added to the claw, nothing overbearing, nothing too in your face, it's just a well stylized pistol shrimp designed to be a Pokemon.
Volcarona follows that exact design philosophy and surprise surprise, it looks amazing too. Shame the rest of the gen 5 dex didn't follow suit and instead degenerated into pure shit.
And now it's happening again with gen 8 because that worthless piece of shit Turner is at the helm. He's stuffed the game full of gen 5 abominations and he's creating a new batch which not even gen 5 fans like because they didn't grow up with this shit like they did with gen 5 so now without those rose tinted goggles and nostalgia blinding them they see first hand what the rest of the world sees when they look at gen 5 mon. Pure shit. Gimmicky, trashy looking shit. Pokemon that look 'quirky and dumb lol xD' instead of simple instinct driven animals, insects AND EVEN OBJECTS. Something like Magneton fits the true Pokemon theme just as well as the best designed animals and insects. It has no innate personality or human qualities to it.
It's a fucking shame to see what the series has devolved into and you know what, maybe it didn't fully start from gen 5, maybe the seed of that cancer happened earlier but it truly fucking bloomed and stuck out in gen 5, then went into remission with gen 6 & gen 7 to a lesser extent
