>>56150032Thank you for sharing as well anon! I really appreciate the thoughts and suggestions you gave me, and the sentiments as wells :)
Working with veterans is a great idea for government work, my mom is always talking about that but it totally slipped my mind.
She's a social worker herself who thinks I'd fit well into the profession and also my main motivator! I've always been lost wondering what I want to become, but I've always loved helping people and that warm fuzzy feelings it gives you, so this is the profession I finally decided to land on. Even if the income isn't the greatest at first (or ever), if I can lay on my deathbed knowing I was able make the world a better place in some way, that would be greater than any amount of wealth or material posessions.
The part about being inspired to work with struggling kids because of your own upbringing and the social worker that was there for you at school really resonated with me! I'm so happy she was there to give you some guidance during those confusing and difficult years and that now because of that you want to do the same. It's beautiful to hear your story, I hope things have been getting better and continue to get better for you anon. This website is generally a shithole, but getting to talk with people like you now and then keeps me coming back.
It sounds to me like you have the makings of an amazing Social Worker that will touch so many lives in a positive way, however you end up doing it.
I wish you a ton of success in your educational, professional, and lifelong pursuits as well anon!
>>56151120Thanks for your input anon, you're absolutely right that sticking with your passions, or hell, even being able to figure out your passions and deciding to pursue them is a gift in itself.
I appreciate the words of encouragement, and I'm wishing you the best of luck in your career change. Hang in there, and good luck!
