Y'see, this time, he didn't even have to get his AllStars teams, like he had for the AG and DP greatest feats. He's beaten the League and the Champion-equivalent with local rookie mons.
Only XY Ash can compare, using the rookie mons to get to Top 2 and hold his own vs the champion. Which, again, makes sense, because of the accumulated experience.
Ash is now at a level where he can win against top trainers with rookie teams, without the need to bring back Charizard, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Heracross, Quilava etc.
