It can be good for exploring different sides of your character that you might not have considered before (how they might act preparing for a date or something like that), so long as it actually makes sense and is in character. Key words: "In character." Like, if your dude's a brooding loner, don't have him jump into relationships so easily.
Also, don't forget conflict. I've seen a lot of OC relationships that just go down smoothly, and while that is comfy, it doesn't really allow for much in the way of character/relationship growth and development after a while. They can be really boring without a little conflict. Doesn't have to be "end of the world" melodramatic, but at least something that makes your character feel bad and think "maybe I shouldn't have said that..." or something. If the other person does something to make your character mad, don't be afraid to have your character get mad. You can work it out in-character from there.
