>>34614389I've read about the mutant rule and I decided against it because it just doesn't really "feel" right. I found that by adding a bit more redundancy it works out alright. My cube uses a selection of gen 1 pokémon from all the available gen 1 cards which means the power level is a lot flatter. There are strong basics floating around but getting an evolution going can be very rewarding. There is a bit of tension going on when drafting because you might not get your evolution line going but so far it was a great tactical element in draft. You always have to decide to pick useful trainer cards of strong mons. Even after a lot of drafting none of my players have found "the best" strategy yet. I've seen decks with almost nothing but trainer cards win but also strong evolutions.
But yes, for a more inexperienced drafter a lot will be decided in the drafting phase because bad evolution picks can hurt you badly.
>multiplayer deckI'm pretty sure in gen 4 or somewhere there were actual cards with multiplayer (two-headed giant especially) interactions.
Also, one of my very few store matches back in the day when the Rocket expansion was not yet out was a four way match.
