On my first run of silver as a kid, I remember going into the first cave and trying to find some cool pokemon. After only coming across zubats and geodudes, I was about to exit when I came across one of these guys. I started freaking out and just threw all my pokeballs at it, but to no avail. I spent the nest 40 minutes or so trying to find another one, convinced it was some special rare legendary. Took me years to find out it was just a really rare normal type, but I still love the fucker.
